Wilmington Police have arrested a Newark man on gun charges.

On October 26 at approximately 12:01 a.m., police officers on proactive patrol conducted a vehicle stop in the 700 block of East 4^th Street for several traffic infractions.  The driver, identified as 37-year-old Derek Ross of Newark, was observed with a firearm.  He was taken into custody without incident and police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.  A DUI test was administered on Ross after officers suspected he was intoxicated.

Ross was charged with the following offenses, in addition to numerous traffic violations:

• Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
• Possession of a Firearm while Under the Influence
• Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol
