INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Barton Road and Newport Avenue, City of Loma Linda

SUSPECT/DRIVER: Isaiah Tamasoaalii, 19-year-old male, resident of Redlands

VICTIM/PEDESTRIAN: Judith Covarrubias, 65-year-old female, resident of Grand Terrace

SUMMARY:
On Saturday, November 2, 2019, at approximately 6:05 am, deputies assigned to the city of Loma Linda responded to a traffic collision on Barton Road near the intersection of Newport Avenue. Upon arrival, it was found the vehicle involved, driven by Tamasoaalii, struck Covarrubias who was running on the sidewalk on the south side of Barton Road. The fire department and American Medical Response responded to the scene. Despite lifesaving efforts, Covarrubias was declared deceased.

Deputies from the Region I Major Accident Investigation Team arrived on-scene and assumed the collision investigation. The cause of the collision is under investigation.

Tamasoaalii was arrested and booked for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
