PSE&G to Trim Trees Near Utility Lines in Hoboken

PSE&G to Trim Trees Near Utility Lines in Hoboken
Proactive Work Helps Ensure Safe & Reliable Utility Service

PSE&G will proactively trim (not remove) trees throughout Hoboken beginning on November 6, 2019. The tree trimming does not include the removal of any trees in their entirety; only pruning that is required every 4-years by the NJ Board of Public Utilities.  This necessary tree work is part of regular maintenance and is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2019, weather permitting.

Trees will be trimmed because branches and trees that fall on power lines are one of the prime causes of power outages. Keeping power lines clear of vegetation is crucial to the safety and reliability of electric service. A licensed tree care expert will evaluate the trees along power lines in Hoboken and direct the certified tree trimmer to perform the pruning in accordance with federal specifications, at no additional cost to residents or customers.

PSE&G foresters and contractors are working closely with the City to ensure minimal impact and ample notice to residents and businesses. Residents are advised that pruning will occur on Jefferson Street, Adams Street, and Grand Street from November 6 to 8. PSE&G has provided informational door-hangers to notifiy residents next to affected trees.

This tree trimming is unrelated to the Madison Street Substation Project to upgrade the electric distribution system to make it more reliable and resilient against severe weather. For that project, PSEG will be planting 61 trees throughout Hoboken before Thanksgiving.
