Advisory

Halloween is Tonight: Cushing Police provide Halloween safety tips to help ensure a safe night of trick or treating.

Cushing – The Cushing Police Department would like to encourage all participants to have a fun, yet safe Halloween tonight. Interim Police Chief Claxton asks for drivers to be more aware and watch for the trick-or-treaters that will be going house to house and crossing the streets.

The Cushing Police Department encourages the community members to be safety aware all year but ask that they pay even more attention on Halloween. Due to all the overall excitement of the night, the numerous community activities and the heavy residential foot traffic. Some trick-or-treaters are so excited to make their ways through these events and neighborhoods trick-or-treating that they may forget safety tips.

The Cushing Police Department would like to recommend the following safety tips.
Cushing Police Recommend that Children:

  • Go only to well-lit houses and
  • Remain on porches rather than entering houses.
  • Travel in groups and be accompanied by an adult.
  • Know your phone number in case an emergency telephone call is necessary.
  • Bring treats home before eating them so parents can inspect them.
  • Use flashlights, stay on sidewalks, and avoid crossing yards.
  • Cross streets at the corner, use crosswalks (where they exist),
  • A mask can obstruct your vision. It is recommended to remove the mask while crossing the street.
  • Avoid crossing the street between parked cars.
  • Wear clothing that is bright, reflective.
Cushing Police Recommend that Parents:
  • Drive slowly.
  • Watch for children in the street and on medians.
  • Exit driveways and alleyways carefully.
  • Have children get out of cars on the curbside, not on the traffic side.
  • Inspect all candy for safety before children eat it.
  • Establish a curfew (a return time) for older children.
