Be Safe This Halloween!

Who’s ready for Halloween? We wanted to share a great way to help keep everyone safe, share how you plan to celebrate and see who’s participating in the neighborhood.

-Stay safe no matter your costume by having reflective tape or fabric on your costumes or candy buckets so cars can see you.
-Trick-or-treat with trusted neighbors.
-Drive slowly and anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.
-Keep footpaths clear for trick-or-treaters by placing decorations where visitors won't walk. Additionally, ensure electrical cords don't cross footpaths.
-Keep
candies away from pets. All forms of chocolate-especially baking or dark chocolate--can be dangerous, even lethal, for dogs and cats.
-
Remember to bring a flashlight for when it gets dark.
-try your best to use sidewalks and crosswalks to avoid cars.
-Avoid candy that has loose wrappings, is completely unwrapped, has puncture holes, or is homemade and not factory-wrapped.

Nextdoor offers an interactive Halloween Treat Map which allows you to see who will be hosting a haunted house or passing out candy or non-food treats for kids with food allergies. Sign up at https://nextdoor.com.

To participate:
1. Visit the Treat Map at https://nextdoor.com/treat_map. Mark your home with candy corn, teal pumpkin, or haunted house depending on how you plan to celebrate. For detailed instructions about how to access the treat map and to add your house to the treat map visit: https://help.nextdoor.com/s/article/About-the-Treat-Map

2. Encourage your neighbors and friends to add their home to the Treat Map so you’ll know exactly who is handing out treats or hosting a haunted house.

3. On Halloween night, take the Treat Map on the go with you to find the best streets for treats.

Wishing everyone a fun Halloween! BOO safe out there.
