PSPS Update Sun 10/26 3:00 pm. Message #3

Cell service is becoming limited, only call 9-1-1 for life-threatening emergencies

We’re now over 18 hours in to the power shutdown. The battery back-up on some cell towers has been exhausted so those towers have shut down. This results in poor and very limited cell coverage in some areas of Marin. Data and WiFi coverage is also extremely slow, or nonexistent. Our call centers are becoming overwhelmed with requests for welfare checks on people who are not answering their phones or replying to texts. Absent extenuating circumstances, please do not call to request welfare checks. Call 9-1-1 only for immediate medical or life-threatening emergencies.

Please only use 9-1-1 if you are experiencing a medical emergency (e.g., severe bleeding, chest pain, etc.), or to report a downed power line or tree which could create a public hazard.  Use 2-1-1 for non-emergency calls, including questions about medical devices, community resource center and charging center locations, and referrals to other social services.  2-1-1 should be your primary contact number. In addition, residents can text MARINSHUTOFF to 898-211 for information.
