Parts of San Mateo May be Affected by Power Outage
Residents advised to visit PG&E’s website to determine if they may be impacted, be prepared.

San Mateo, CA — A Red Flag Warning and power outage advisory has been issued for Saturday, Oct. 26, through Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, and is expected to affect areas of the City of San Mateo.

To find out if your service may be impacted by Pacific Gas & Electric’s Public Safety Power Shutoff visit: https://psps.ss.pge.com (Please note only some portions generally west of Highway 101 in the City of San Mateo are expected to be affected.)

PG&E is monitoring weather patterns and the PSPS may be activated in response to high winds and fire danger.

PG&E may discontinue power in parts of San Mateo County starting in the early afternoon on Saturday, Oct. 26, unless there is an unexpected change in the weather forecasted. The PSPS is scheduled to last until the afternoon on Monday, Oct. 28, however, it could take 2-5 days for the power lines to be reenergized.

If PG&E expects service to an address to be impacted, they will attempt to call, text, or email by using the phone number or email address currently on file. Please sign in and update your contact information at: www.pge.com/mywildfirealerts

The City is working closely with our partner agencies to prepare for and manage a potential power outage. All essential services – including water, sewer, police and fire - will continue. However, if the PSPS occurs, the Main Library may be closed. At this time, City Hall is not expected to be impacted.

We will continue to provide information as it becomes available.

Safety:

  • Treat all intersections without working traffic lights as a four-way stop.
  • Please only call 911 for emergencies, and not to report power outages.

Prepare in Advance:
  • Update contact information at pge.com/mywildfirealerts. PG&E will use this information to alert customers through automated calls, texts, and emails, when possible, prior to, and during, a PSPS.
  • Plan for medical needs like medications that require refrigeration or devices that need power.
  • Identify backup charging methods for phones and keep hard copies of emergency numbers.
  • Build or restock your emergency kit with flashlights, fresh batteries, first aid supplies and cash.
