Advisory

A Fort Worth Outdoor Warning System siren test is scheduled for 1pm today.

The Fort Worth Office of Emergency Management is scheduled to conduct a siren test at 1pm today.

The first Wednesday of each month your neighborhood siren will sound for 90 seconds, the remaining Wednesdays in the month the siren will sound for 15 seconds.  Tests may be canceled if severe weather is forecast or current weather conditions may cause confusion as to whether it is a drill or an actual activation.  During these weekly siren tests, the Office of Emergency Management recommends residents take the time to review your emergency and communication plans to use during an emergency situation.  This is the time to check on supplies in your emergency kits.  Check that batteries are in good condition.  Update your weather notification apps on your smartphone or tablet.

As a reminder, the city’s outdoor warning system can be activated for a tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service, the report of a tornado by a qualified spotter, hail larger than 1.5 inch in diameter,  70 mile per hour or stronger winds, a state or national emergency, or other incidents determined by an Emergency Management duty officer to warrant the siren activation.  In an actual event “SEEK SHELTER AND SEEK INFORMATION”.
