DISPOSE OF UNWANTED, UNUSED OR EXPIRED MEDICATIONS

On Saturday, October 26, 2019, the Tustin Police Department, working in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will be hosting “Tustin Take Back Day.”

Did you know?
• Medication that is improperly taken or abused is a leading cause of accidental poisoning.
• Unused or expired medications that are thrown out with trash or flushed can end up polluting the environment.

This event is a National Take Back Initiative designed to remove potentially dangerous prescription drugs from our community. Citizens who want to dispose of any unwanted or unused prescription drugs can safely dispose of them from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the parking lot of the Tustin Police Department.

E-Cigarette & Vaping Devices Disposal Information
To help combat the continued vaping health crisis across the country, we will be collecting vaping pens and cartridges at the collection site. Through discussions with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), DEA has determined that vaping pens without the internal batteries are considered household hazardous waste, the exact same waste designation as the NTBI collected pharmaceuticals and can therefore be co-mingled with NTBI materials. Pens with batteries in them, however, are a different waste stream designation and, more importantly, are considered a potential fire hazard. For those that have batteries that cannot be removed, please call your local hazardous waste management facility or you can check with large electronic chain stores who may accept the devices for proper disposal.

All types of medications including pills, tablets, ointments, liquids, and other standard forms will be accepted. Hypodermic syringes will not be accepted.
