Wilmington Police arrest 18-year-old in connection with two armed dirt bike robberies:

Wilmington Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with two armed dirt bike robbery incidents.
 
On August 22 at approximately 6:24 p.m., police responded to the 1100 block of Thatcher Street in reference to an armed robbery. Officers located a victim, who indicated that a suspect stole their dirt bike at gunpoint. That investigation was assigned to Detective Michael Hayman of the Criminal Investigations Division.
 
On September 25, police were contacted about an armed robbery that had taken place at approximately 11 a.m. on September 21 in the 1100 block of East 7th Street. Officers learned that the victim was robbed of a dirt bike and cell phone at gunpoint. That case was assigned to Detective Douglas Rivell.
 
Through the course of their investigations, Detectives Hayman and Rivell identified 18-year-old Deonta Carney as a suspect in both incidents. Arrest warrants were secured by both investigators, and on October 18, Carney was located by the US Marshals Task Force in the 500 block of West 3rd Street. Carney was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit and the Crisis Management Tactical Team.
 
Carney has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Robbery (First Degree) – Two Counts
  • Conspiracy (Second Degree) – Two Counts
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (within 10 years of a felony conviction)
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
Carney was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $104,000 cash-only bail.
 
Additional arrest warrants for Carney have been signed for resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, in reference to an investigation that took place on Friday at the time of his arrest. Arraignment on those charges is pending at this time.
