APD CIRT responds to gunshots at local apartment complex. Arrest made in incident for Deadly Conduct.

On Sunday, October 20, 2019, at 5:03PM, APD Officers were dispatched to the apartments in the 4600 block of S. Virginia, on possible shots fired from an apartment.  The caller told officers she had heard what she believed were gunshots coming from a neighbor’s apartment. The caller left the scene. Officers went to the door to make contact and heard another gunshot. They contacted a supervisor and while waiting heard what they believed were more gunshots.  They evacuated surrounding apartments and the APD Critical Incident Response Team was activated.  APD SWAT set up a perimeter around the suspected apartment and Negotiators attempted to make contact by phone, but were not successful. The SWAT team began calling to the subject through a PA and after a short while, he came out and surrendered himself to officers, without any further incident.  The suspect is Steven Young, male, age 49, and he was booked in the Randall County Jail for the offense of Deadly Conduct.  There were no reports of injuries made to the APD reference this incident.  It is still being investigated by the Amarillo PD Violent Crimes Unit.
