Sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team investigated a fatal collision in Yucca Valley

LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Hwy / Indio Ave., Yucca Valley
DRIVER# 1: Thomas John Geiger Jr., 22 year old male from Yucca Valley
PASSENGER 1: Robert Barajas, 24-year-old male from Yucca Valley *DECEASED*
DRIVER# 2: Deputy Sheriff - assigned to Morongo Station
SUMMARY:
On October 19, 2019, at approximately 6:33 a.m., a 2008 Honda Civic, driven by Geiger was traveling east on Twentynine Palms Hwy. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Indio Ave., Geiger attempted to make a left turn onto Indio Ave. in front of an oncoming sheriff’s unit. Geiger did not have time to complete the turn and the Honda was struck on the passenger side by the sheriff’s unit. Robert Barajas, of Yucca Valley was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle and was not wearing his seatbelt. Barajas was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deputy sheriff was treated and released from an area hospital. Geiger was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition.
The collision is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Region I M.A.I.T. Team. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the investigating deputies at the Rancho Cucamonga Station.
