INCIDENT TYPE: Hit/Run Fatal Accident

INCIDENT LOCATION: 7150 Madison Avenue

INDIANAPOLIS -  Just after 6:00 a.m., on Friday, October 18, 2019, Southeast District officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Madison Avenue on a report of an IndyGo bus striking a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive adult male stuck underneath the bus. Hit and Run and Accident Investigators were called to the scene.  Indianapolis EMS responded and pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

Hit and Run Investigators have determined there was another vehicle involved in the incident.  Investigators learned a silver or gray colored 2002-2009 GMC Envoy traveling south on Madison Avenue struck the pedestrian in the left travel lane, knocking the pedestrian onto the roadway.  After the collision, the GMC Envoy did not stop and fled the scene east on South Street.  Moments after being struck by the Envoy, the pedestrian was struck again by the IndyGo bus.  Attached are photos of the actual suspect vehicle, which will have damage to the passenger side headlight and bumper area.  The Envoy has what appears to be a circular sticker on the lower right portion of the back window.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The name of the deceased can be obtained from the MCCO after proper next-of-kin notification has been made.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the IMPD Hit and Run Office at 317.327.6549 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.8477 or (TIPS).  Citizens can also download the mobile P3tips app for Apple or Android phones to submit a mobile tip, or go to www.CrimeTips.org to submit a web tip.
