SUSPECTED LAKEPORT GANG MEMBER INDICTED ON FIREARM CHARGE IN UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT
Date: October 18th, 2019
On October 10th, 2019 a Grand Jury in the United States District Court for the Northern Division of California indicted Christian Alejandro Estrella, 25, of Lakeport on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition in violation of Title 18 of the United States Code.
On August 14th, 2019, Lakeport Police Officers had encountered Estrella, a person known to them as being an active gang member who was on parole and under the supervision of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), and found him in possession of an unregistered and loaded 9MM pistol. Officers placed Estrella under arrest and he was booked into the Lake County Jail on the following felony charges: Prohibited person in possession of a firearm, Prohibited person in possession of ammunition, Concealed firearm not the registered owner, Concealed firearm in a vehicle, Possession of firearm by persons with prior weapons charges and a parole hold.
The Lake County District Attorney filed a complaint against Estrella accusing him of felony charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition and carrying a concealed firearm. Estrella was later released from custody on bail.
Prior to Estrella being prosecuted on the California state charges, the Lakeport Police Department requested review of Estrella’s case by the office of the United States Attorney for the Northern Division of California (USAO) and the San Francisco office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI conducted an investigation and filed a case with the USAO who presented it to a federal Grand Jury which indicted Estrella on the above mentioned violations of the United States Code.
On October 15, 2019, as a result of the indictment, FBI Special Agents contacted Estrella in Lakeport and placed him under arrest on a no bail warrant. Estrella was transported to a federal custody facility to be held pending court appearances. The state case filed in Lake County is being dismissed.
Any media inquiries regarding the federal investigation or proceedings should be directed to the FBI or USAO offices in San Francisco.
