Public Works
Staff News –
 
Public Works Staff members Mike Harper and Troy Strange graduated from Illinois Public Service Institute (IPSI) training on October 11.  IPSI is a three year program for public works professionals which focuses on leadership, customer service, and supervisory skills.  The program is hosted by the Illinois Chapter of the APWA.  Both staff members have attended the program for all three years on scholarships provided by the Chicago Metro Chapter of the APWA.
 
 
Projects—
  • Pearl Street Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program Improvements – Summit construction poured the decorative stamped concrete at various locations to complete the stamped concrete work.  Surface Construction will be on-site tomorrow to continue grinding the crosswalks in preparation for installing the decorative inlays next week. 
  • 2019 Road Resurfacing Program – Paving in Glacier Ridge Subdivision has been completed.  There are 6-10 driveway repairs that will be performed by the contractor in the next 7-10 days.  Once the driveway repairs are finished, the project will be 100% complete.
 
  • Curran Road Highway Safety Improvement Program Project – Grinding and patching have been completed.  The first layer of asphalt paving was placed on Thursday (10/17) over the entire length of the road.  The final layer of asphalt will be placed next week.    Curran Road will continue to be one lane for most of the day from 7:00AM to 7:00PM during paving operations.   Residents should expect long delays.  Crews will be working between Dartmoor Drive (south limits) and Route 120 (north limits).  
 
Street Division—
  • Crews put down 30 tons of asphalt and poured over 12 yards of concrete this week.
  • Superintendent Scott Schweda attended the IPWMAN (Illinois Public Works Mutual Aid Network) Conference this week. It is the mission of IPWMAN, in the spirit of intergovernmental cooperation, to develop and maintain a statewide network of public works related agencies whose principal purpose is to provide mutual aid response and recovery assistance to each other when confronted with natural or man-made emergencies and disasters.
 
Economic Development
The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a medical cannabis dispensary at 408 S Illinois Route 31.   This will be considered by the City Council at their November 18 meeting.
 
International Council of Shopping Centers Deal Making
Economic Development Coordinator Wolf and Director Martin attend the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Deal Making Conference in Chicago.  The event featured municipalities and retailers, as well as presentations on different topics.

Community Development
 

A certificate of occupancy was issued to 6606 Homestead Dr for a new single family home in the Legend Lakes subdivision.

During this time period the McHenry Police Department:
  • Handled 443 calls for service
  • Investigated 10 Motor Vehicle Accidents
  • Conducted 127 Traffic Stops
  • Conducted over 91 Business Checks and Foot Patrols
  • Handled 12 calls for service involving Domestic Disputes
  • Handled 7 calls for service involving crisis intervention
  • Arrested 9 individuals on State criminal charges
 
Training:
 
Detectives Roske, A. Birk, J. Prather and Kinney attended the Illinois Homicide Investigators Training Conference in Itasca, Illinois.  Commander Sciame and Sergeant K. Ducak also attended the training as members of the McHenry County Investigation Assistance Team.
 
School Resource Officer P. Prather attended a 40-Hour Basic School Resource Officer training hosted by the Lincolnwood Police Department.
 
As the department’s member on the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team, Officer Hendrickson attended Basic SWAT Officer training.
 
Sergeant Aalto and Officers Rewiako, Fisher, Harris and Zumwalt, as members of the Major Critical Accident Team, participated in team training at the police department.
 
Public Relations:
 
Chief Birk and Mayor Jett were happy to give several classes of Riverwood School 2nd grade students a tour of the Municipal Center and the police department.
