Alert

Coastal Flood Advisory until 08:00AM Sunday

...DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS AND MINOR COASTAL FLOODING... .Increased swell periods and swell heights will introduce a high risk for dangerous rip currents through early Sunday morning along Gulf facing beaches of the Middle Texas Coast. Higher than normal astronomical tides will result in minor coastal flooding along Gulf facing beaches along the Middle Texas Coast around the times of high tide. Tide levels are expected to reach or exceed 2 feet MSL during high tide, which may cause at least 1 foot of beach inundation, and water reaching the dunes. Minor coastal flooding could continue through early next week. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a High Rip Current Risk, which is in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday morning.

* COASTAL FLOODING...Minor coastal flooding during time of high tide.

* TIMING...Dangerous Rip Currents from Saturday morning through Sunday morning. Coastal flooding during times of high tide. The next high tide at Bob Hall Pier is 916 PM Friday and 1033 PM Saturday. The next high tide at Port O'Connor will occur at 413 AM Saturday and 440 AM Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Rip Currents can sweep away even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. These rip currents can become life-threatening to anyone entering the surf. Poor driving conditions are expected as water reaches the dunes. Some beach access roads may become impassable.

* AFFECTED AREAS: CALHOUN ISLANDS ... ARANSAS ISLANDS ... NUECES ISLANDS ... KLEBERG ISLANDS

Instructions:

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
