Drifting Smoke Possible due to Active Fire in County Area

Good evening,

As you are very aware
there are active fires taking place in the County.  Smoke is drifting into parts of La Quinta from the Martinez Fire off of Avenue 66 and Martinez Road, on tribal land in the Thermal area.  Even though this fire is not in our City, the smoke is noticeable and residents should try to stay indoors.  There are multiple fire crews on scene working to control the blaze. We have been informed that smoke from this particular fire does post a public health risk to nearby schools and communities. The Bureau of Indian Affairs issued a Cease and Desist order to the Sun Valley Recycling Center Wednesday morning stating that if the dumping operations are not immediately halted, the owner will face an injunction and be held liable. Please consider outdoor conditions while planning your activities for the upcoming weekend.

Thank you,
City of La Quinta
