NEW PEDESTRIAN HYBRID BEACONS NEAR PARKVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WILL BE ACTIVATED TODAY

As part of a Safe Route to School Grant, the City of Ripon recently completed the installation of two Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon systems at the intersections of Calhoun Avenue/Colony Road and Calhoun Avenue/Santos Avenue.  To use the system a pedestrian should push the button at the crosswalk.  This activates the beacons, which drivers are to respond to in the same manner as any other traffic signal.  Drivers and pedestrians should familiarize themselves with its operation.

DRIVERS

• When flashing yellow prepare to Stop
• When solid red you must Stop
• When flashing red you must Stop, then you may proceed if clear

PEDESTRIANS

• Push button to activate beacons
• When walk signal appears you are allowed to cross with caution
• When hand signal appears do not enter crosswalk

As with any street crossing, it is important that pedestrians proceed with caution, watching out for traffic that may fail to stop.  Please drive carefully and help keep our kids safe!
