Full Notification

Moraga Police and Cal Fire arson investigators are investigating the Merrill Fire and have determined that the cause of the fire appears to be accidental.  The exact cause of the fire is not being released at this time.  However, the investigation into the fire is still underway and is expected to continue for some time.  Anyone with information about the Merrill Fire or any suspicious activity in Sanders Ranch on the night of the fire is asked to contact Moraga Police Detective Kevin Mooney at 925-888-7056 or via e-mail at [email protected].

I would like to thank the Sanders Ranch residents who assisted us by alerting their neighbors about the fire and to all of the residents who evacuated the area in a calm, expedient manner.  We appreciate your help and are reviewing the notification and evacuation process to see how it was affected by the power outage and to make improvements for future notifications.  Any comments and/or information would be appreciated and can be e-mailed to Chief King at [email protected].  Additionally, information can be provided at the Police Department Town Hall meeting on Thursday (October 17^th), 7:00p.m. at the Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School auditorium.
