No power outage in Malibu overnight. Red Flag fire conditions continue Fri, Oct 11. Smoke visible, but no current fire threat to Malibu.

PSPS and Red Flag Fire Conditions Update, Friday, October 11, 7:00 AM

There were no Southern California Edison (SCE) Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) or wind-related power outages overnight in Malibu. There is fire threat to Malibu at this time.

The National Weather  Service (NWS) reports that Red Flag dangerous fire weather conditions will continue over most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties through late afternoon Friday, October 11 due to moderate to strong Santa Ana winds and very low humidity. Wind gusts of 45 and 55 mph are expected across coastal and valley areas, with gusts between 55 and 75 mph in the foothills and mountains with widespread single-digit humidity. There is a chance that this Red Flag Warning will need to be extended into Saturday, especially for the Mountains, and windy conditions are expected throughout the weekend. Due to the current Sylmar fire, smoke is visible in Malibu and L.A. County Public Health Dept. reports air quality is moderate, which be could unhealthy for seniors, children and people with respiratory conditions. The City is offering free respiratory masks available to the public at City Hall (23825 Stuart Ranch Rd.) and Bluffs Park Michael Landon Community Center (PCH and Malibu Canyon Rd.). As of 6:00 AM, Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) announced Malibu schools will be open.

The City and the LA County Fire Department will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they are received. The City will post information on the website (www.MalibuCity.org), social media, Nextdoor, and the Emergency and Traffic Telephone Hotline (310-456-9982). Residents should monitor local news, including KNX AM-1070 and KBUU 99.1-FM on the radio.
