RED FLAG WARNING IN PLACE THROUGH FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11, 6 PM
Dear Duarte Community:
RE: RED FLAG WARNING IN PLACE THROUGH FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11, 6 PM WITH DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS OVER MOST OF LA & VENTURA COUNTIES THROUGH LATE FRIDAY
A moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event is bringing dangerous fire weather conditions over most of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties through late Friday afternoon. Expect wind gusts between 45 and
55 mph across coastal and valley areas, with gusts between 55 and 75 mph in the foothills and mountains. Widespread single digit humidity from 3 to 10% and dry fuel create critical fire weather conditions with the potential for very rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior with any new ignitions. There is also a chance that this Red Flag Warning will need to be extended into Saturday, especially for the mountain areas.
Additionally, Los Angeles County Fire Department will be up-staffing Engine Companies, patrols, hand crews, dozer teams as well as a large complement of aircraft in case of emergency. Note local road closures include Claremont Hills Wilderness Area, Glendora Mountain Road and Glendora Ridge Road
Although much of the San Gabriel Valley is not expected to receive the extreme conditions the National Weather Service is publicizing, it is a reminder to all of us that we need to be prepared. A good resource for the public is www.ready.lacounty.gov which contains the LA County Fire “Ready, Set, Go” program.
