LOCATION: 11800 block of Pepperwood Street, Victorville

SUSPECT: Dashean Antwan Wages, 26-year old Victorville resident

VICTIM: San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy

SUMMARY: On October 8, 2019, a deputy with the Victorville Police Department was dispatched to a disturbance call in the 11800 block of Pepperwood Street. The caller heard fighting and believed it may have been a family dispute at a neighboring house.

Upon arrival, the deputy saw the suspect, Dashean Antwan Wages, pacing in his driveway. The deputy exited his patrol car and approached the suspect to talk to him. The suspect refused to cooperate with the deputy. The suspect appeared agitated and had a strong smell of alcohol on him. During an attempt to detain the suspect, he became combative and tackled the deputy, causing him to fall to the ground. The deputy was punched multiple times, and the suspect attempted to take the deputy’s firearm from his duty belt. The struggle continued for several minutes, with the deputy fighting to keep the suspect from getting his firearm and using it against him. The deputy regained his footing and was able to deploy his Taser, enabling him to detain the suspect.

The deputy received several abrasions and cuts. He was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel and was able to return to duty. The suspect was transported and evaluated at a local hospital. He was subsequently arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon on a Peace Officer, attempting to take a firearm from a Peace Officer, and resisting an officer.
