Advisory

Public Safety Power Shutoff at Noon

The Town of Moraga has confirmed that PG&E will be shutting down electrical power in Moraga, Orinda and Lafayette beginning today at NOON (12:00 P.M.).  The actual shutoff may occur after noon, so be prepared.  Approximately 51,000 PG&E customers in Contra Costa County are being affected by these outages.  This shutoff is in response to the weather conditions that are causing the extreme fire weather in our area.  They expect these conditions to ease by Thursday at noon.  Once the weather conditions change, PG&E will begin to repower our area.  However, this takes time as they need to inspect every power line before re-energizing them.

Both Moraga Police and Moraga-Orinda Fire have increased staffing and are working with other agencies to maintain the safety of our Town.  In an emergency, please call 9-1-1. For non-emergency assistance, please call Dispatch at 925-284-5010.  For information, please call Moraga Police during business hours at 925-888-7055.

·         Report suspicious persons to the Moraga Police (925-284-5010).

·         All of you know your neighborhoods very well.  If you see something out of the ordinary, report it ASAP.  See something – say something!

·         Watch out for your neighbors.  Have you checked in with your neighbors to ensure everyone knows what is going on?  Keep an eye on each other’s homes and help as needed.

·         Drive slowly and safely as traffic signals may not be functioning properly.  The Town plans to connect some signals on Moraga Road to generators so they will function normally.  Other signals will be off or flashing red.  These intersections will also have stop signs and should be treated like a four-way stop.

·         The Town has a small charging station available in the lobby of the Town Hall (329 Rheem Blvd.) during normal business hours.  Feel free to stop by, bring your charger and charge up your phone or device.

·         Most freezers that are closed will maintain their temperature for up to 48 hours.  Refrigerators will maintain their temperature for up to 4-6 hours.  Use your perishable food items first.

·         Use generators, stoves and grills outdoors away from windows.  Remember to disconnect electronics and appliances to avoid damage from electrical surges.

·         This situation may cause some people to feel stressed and short tempered.  Please remember that this is a short term situation and is being done by PG&E as they believe it is needed to increase safety during extreme fire conditions.  We need to work together and be understanding.

We will continue to provide new information as it is received.  More information about the PSPS can be found at www.pge.com.  Please contact the Moraga Police with any additional questions or concerns at 925-888-7055.
