Residential Knock-Knock Style Burglary Crew Arrested in Monterey Pk by LA Sheriff’s Burglary-Robbery Task Force, MPPD

On October 2, 2019, at approximately 1:00 PM, detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s (LASD), Major Crimes Bureau (MCB), Burglary-Robbery Task Force (BRTF), observed four suspects appear to commit a residential burglary in the city of Monterey Park.  The detectives saw the suspects, who were in two vehicles (a white Mercedes Benz SUV and a silver Chevrolet SUV), driving slowly through quiet residential streets.  Detectives located the Mercedes Benz parked along Floral Dr. where the driver was observed approaching the front door of the victim’s home, in an apparent “door knock” tactic.   He then returned to his Mercedes Benz and remained seated.  Detectives then saw the Chevrolet arrive and park nearby, and saw two additional suspects exit that Chevy SUV and walk to the rear yard of the victim’s property.

Shortly thereafter, those two suspects are seen quickly walking out of the front door and re-entering their SUV.  Both vehicles simultaneously pulled away from the victim’s residence and left the vicinity.

Detectives quickly confirmed a burglary had in fact occurred, with a rear window forced open and interior of the home ransacked.

As the vehicles and suspects began to leave the area, Sheriff’s Detectives coordinated with responding Monterey Park Police Department (MPPD) patrol units who conducted a traffic stop of the silver Chevrolet.  Both suspects (Robinson and Daniels) who exited the victim’s home, along with the driver (Green), were detained by Sheriff’s Detectives and MPPD Officers without incident.  Detectives recovered stolen jewelry, currency, and a police radio scanner, from within the vehicle.

The Mercedes Benz SUV continued quickly out of the vicinity and was ultimately located in the city of Vernon where the driver (Tisby), who had been seen knocking on the victim’s door, was detained by MPPD Officers and Sheriff’s Detectives, without incident.

The criminal case filing for this burglary is being handled by detectives from MPPD in collaboration with Sheriff’s Detectives.  This crew is suspected in burglaries throughout Southern California, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Burglary-Robbery Task Force is working closely with the MPPD and other Southern California police agencies in determining what recent residential burglaries may be associated with criminal crew.

All four suspects were arraigned in Alhambra Superior Court on Friday, October 6, 2019.  Suspects Daniels, Robinson, and Tisby are all held in custody on bails exceeding $1 million dollars each.  Suspect Green bonded out of custody pending his next court date.

The investigation and arrest of this residential burglary crew is an example of the ongoing cooperation and collaboration between the Sheriff’s Department and local municipal police departments as these agencies are committed to impacting the Southern California wide residential burglary epidemic.  The LASD Major Crimes BRTF works closely and consistently with most Southern California agencies, MPPD in particular, in its mission to identify, investigate, and arrest organized burglary and robbery suspects.

The LASD MCB BRTF was formed over nine years ago to combat the ever increasing trend of organized crews who are committing daytime residential burglaries.  Typically known as “Knock-Knock” burglars, these crews, often formed by gang members, utilize high-end luxury vehicles and rental cars to blend in to middle class and affluent neighborhoods where they break into homes and businesses, ransacking and stealing valuables such as cash, jewelry, and weapons.   The MCB BRTF works closely in support of all LASD station’s detective bureaus, as well as other Southern California law enforcement agencies.  Residents and business owners are reminded to secure their properties, be aware of suspicious and unusual persons or vehicles, and to alert their local law enforcement immediately if suspicious activity is observed.

Residents should call 911 if a life threatening emergency is detected and/or their local police business line if a suspicious person or vehicle is observed.  The MCB BRTF can be contacted via e-mail at [email protected] for tips, questions, or concerns.
