Advisory

PG&E Public Safety Shutoff Set for October 9, 2019

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT COMMUNITY ADVISORY: Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) has notified us that The City of San Leandro will potentially be part of a large public safety power shutoff. This power shutoff is scheduled to start as early as midnight (12:00AM) tonight (Wednesday, October 9, 2019) and will impact approximately 1,200 PG&E customers in San Leandro. In total, approximately 35,000 residences and businesses throughout Alameda County could be impacted by this outage. Restoration of power is expected to begin at 12:00PM on Thursday, October 10, 2019 and may take up to five days to complete.

Based on the most recent information provided by PG&E, areas of San Leandro that could be affected include neighborhoods located south of Durant Avenue, east of Interstate 880, and north of 139th Avenue. Additional neighborhoods may be affected as weather conditions change. We encourage you to find alternative sources of light and other methods of charging your portable devices such as cellphones. Also, take this time to plan ahead with food and water, and make sure your “grab and go” emergency kits are ready.

Should the traffic signals become non-operational during this public safety shutoff, the California Vehicle Code requires all motorists to treat those affected intersections as four way stops. Please use caution when proceeding through those intersections and watch for other motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
