Fairfield Police arrested a 24 year old Vallejo man following a brief stand-off near Manuel Campos and Clay Bank Road Monday afternoon. The incident started when Fairfield Police received a call from a tow yard that a male had removed a gun that had been hidden inside of a car on their lot. Officers responded, but the suspect was gone when they arrived. About an hour later calls began coming into the dispatch center about a suspicious person walking in traffic, creating a hazard, and attempting to hit vehicles near Manuel Campos and Clay Bank Road. Based on the description of the subject and his clothing, officers quickly determined it was likely the same person who had retrieved the gun from the tow yard.
Officers arrived in the area and found the person, identified as Alfred Zuniga, a 24 year old Vallejo resident. Officers gave commands for Zuniga to keep his hands up and walk toward them, but he refused. Zuniga argued with officers, made obscene gestures with his hands, and refused to answer any questions the officers asked him. After about 20 minutes of attempting to get Zuniga to cooperate, officers approached him and safely took Zuniga into custody with the assistance of K9 Cort. After arresting Zuniga, officers recovered an unregistered, loaded .45 cal handgun.
During the standoff, which took place from 5:40PM to 6:00PM, traffic was diverted around the incident. The investigation revealed Zuniga’s car had been towed to the tow yard after catching fire in another city. Zuniga was booked into Solano County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting an officer. His booking photo is not available.
