Woman Arrested for Leaving the Scene Following Crash That Seriously Injures Pedestrian
Suffolk County Police last night arrested a woman for leaving the scene following a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Copiague.
Sagrario Lopez-Escobar was driving a 2005 Toyota Sequoia westbound on 43rd Street, near Atlantic Street, when the vehicle struck an adult male walking in the roadway at approximately 10:30 p.m. Lopez-Escobar left the scene in the Sequoia.
The victim, who has yet to be identified by police, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries.
Lopez-Escobar and was apprehended and arrested a short time later at her residence. The Sequoia was impounded. First Squad detectives charged Lopez-Escobar, 67, of 244 43rd St., Copiague, with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Personal Injury. She will be held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 6.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
