Detectives arrest man in a child shot case

INCIDENT TYPE: Aggravated Assault Arrest
 
INCIDENT LOCATION: 3030 N. Colorado
 
INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Aggravated Assault detectives have arrested Christopher Davis for his involvement in a shooting incident which occurred on the night of September 6, 2019.
 
Just after 9:57 p.m., on September 6, 2019, Officers were dispatched to 3030 N. Colorado on a person shot.  Officers arrived and located a 2-year-old child with a gunshot wound to her upper leg.  Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim to Riley Hospital.
 
Aggravated Assault detectives responded and immediately began canvassing the area for witnesses. Detectives learned that there were several children in the residence, playing where a loaded firearm was accessible.  Detectives learned that one child allegedly shot the 2-year-old victim.  After the detective’s investigation was completed the Marion County Prosecutors office reviewed the case.  Detectives arrested 29-year-old Christopher Davis for Neglect of a Dependent.
 
Gun safety with children is something that concerns everyone. Always keep firearms locked up and out of reach and sight of children. As a community, we need to work together to educate children on the importance of never touching a gun and to tell an adult immediately if they see one.
