Traffic stop for fictitious tag leads deputies to meth, marijuana and paraphernalia
Deputy Steven McPeters of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Benjamin Joseph Goforth, 42, with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of up to ½ ounce marijuana.
At 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, McPeters and Lt. Jason Cook were on patrol in P.G., when they spotted a vehicle with a fictitious tag. Goforth was driving.
A subsequent search of the suspect and the automobile turned up 97 grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of marijuana and items of drug paraphernalia.
