Bicyclist Critically Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash
Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a bicyclist in Baywood last night.
An adult male was riding a BMX bicycle eastbound on Pine Aire Drive, near Garfield Avenue, when he performed a wheelie in the middle of the roadway at approximately 10:38 p.m. The bicyclist was then struck by 2005 Dodge Caravan travelling westbound on Pine Aire Drive. The collision caused the bicyclist to be thrown into an eastbound 2012 Toyota Camry.
The bicyclist, who has yet to be identified by police, was transported via Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in critical condition. Neither driver was injured.
The vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident, including the identity of the bicyclist, to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
