On September 28, 2019, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Fairfield Police Department began receiving numerous calls of a shooting that had just occurred in the 1600 block of Clay St. When officers arrived, they located a shooting victim in the front yard of a residence. Medical aid was immediately provided to the victim until he was transported to a local trauma center by paramedics.
Witnesses on scene provided a detailed description of the suspect. As a result, responding officers were able to locate the suspect in the area and take him into custody. The firearm used in this crime was also recovered. The suspect was a 23-year old male, Fairfield resident. The investigation showed this was not a random act. The victim and suspect knew each other, and no suspects are outstanding.
The victim, an 18-year old male, Fairfield resident, later died at the hospital. His identity is being withheld pending notification of the family.
Due to the cooperation between witnesses and the police, we were able to quickly take the suspect into custody and help protect our community.
