100TH ANNIVERSARY GALA will take place on Friday, October 4 from 8:00 pm - 12:00 am at The Tides in North Haledon, black tie optional.  Tickets are $100.00 per person and are available in the Clerk's office through September 30th.

WASTE DISPOSAL DAY - Saturday, October 5 - Tires, Wood Waste & Car/Truck Batteries:  The Borough will hold a one day collection of tires, wood waste and car/truck batteries at the Recycling Center, 19 Industrial Park (off Hopper Ave.) on Saturday, October 5 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Tires on or off rims from autos, vans, and pick-up trucks will be accepted.  No truck tires will be accepted. All types of wood will be accepted.  No tree stumps, large limbs or household batteries will be accepted.  This event is for residents only, no commercial businesses.
 
WEEK OF OCTOBER 14 is the last week for GRASS-BRUSH/BRANCH COLLECTION.  LEAF COLLECTION starts the week of October 21.  Leaves will be picked up by voting district.  Voting districts are listed on the home page of the Borough’s website - waldwicknj.org or contact the DPW at (201) 652-5987 for assistance.
 
There will be three complete pickups in the first two districts listed below, weather permitting.  All other districts will have two complete pickups.  Please contact the Department of Public Works at (201) 652-5987 if you have any questions about the leaf program.

Garbage, branches, shrubs or debris of any kind will not be picked up as part of the Leaf Program.  LEAVES ONLY.  Residents should rake the leaves into the street one day prior to their scheduled pickup date.  Please note that there may be variations in the schedule due to weather conditions/emergencies.  LEAVES SHALL NOT BE PLACED WITHIN 10 FEET OF ANY STORM DRAIN INLET.
 
After leaf collection ends, residents must BAG THEIR LEAVES IN BIODEGRADABLE PAPER BAGS and bring to the Recycling Center, 19 Industrial Park during normal business hours (Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 3:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am - 1:00 pm) or keep leaves on your property until the Grass-Brush/Branch collection begins in April 2020.
 
**NEW RULES FOR BULK PICK UP:  Borough ordinance permits a maximum of 2 bulk items per pickup to be placed curbside.  Bulk items are limited to household furniture including couches, dressers, mattresses, etc.
 
**NEW RULES FOR GARBAGE COLLECTION: Borough Ordinance permits a maximum of four (4) 50 gallon/50 lbs. containers, or bundles not exceeding 4 ft. and 50 lbs. total.  The ordinance also requires that containers/bundles MUST be curbside by 6:00 am on the day of your pickup and that the garbage containers be removed from the curb by the end of the day.   PIZZA boxes and STYROFOAM are considered garbage.
 
OUT OF THE DARKNESS COMMUNITY WALK - Mayor Thomas Giordano and the Waldwick Stigma Free Task force invite you to participate in the Out of the Darkness Community Walk, Sunday, October 20th, 2019, Saddle River County Park, Saddle Brook, 10:00 am. Proceeds benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), which is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

WALVAC - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - WALVAC is always looking for members!  Youth group members can start at age 16.  EMT/CPR training classes are provided by the Corps.  If you are interested in helping your neighbors in need and joining a group of dedicated members, contact Captain Tami Moses at [email protected] or stop by WALVAC, 20 Whites Lane on the 1st or 3rd Mondays of each month to meet our members.
 
WALDWICK GOLDEN CLUB – SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AGES 55+ - The Waldwick Golden Club invites adults ages 55 and older to join.  The Club offers many diversified activities, events and programs at the Senior Center located in the Ambulance Corps Building 2nd Floor on Whites Lane.  Our purpose is to reaffirm the value of older adults in our community by providing an opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities, share talents and experiences, and to socialize with one’s peers.
 
The Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from January – October.  Luncheons are held in November and December to celebrate the Holidays.  The Club also offers Game Day every Monday from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the Senior Center. 
 
The Club offers Extracurricular Activities including day trips, picnics, special luncheons (pizza and hot dog days) as well as Gentle Aerobic Exercise on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the Ambulance Corps Building, 2nd Floor Senior Center.  For more information, please contact Michele Colettis at 201-447-2735.
 
RAGAMUFFIN PARADE & TRUNK OR TREAT – The Waldwick Community Alliance and the Borough of Waldwick are proud to sponsor the 2019 Ragamuffin Parade and Trunk or Treat event.  This year both events will be held on Saturday, October 26 (rain date October 27).  The Ragamuffin Parade will start at 10:00 am in front of the Police Officer Christopher Goodell Public Safety Building on East Prospect Street and end at the train station on Hewson Avenue.  The Trunk or Treat will take place following the parade at the Train Station Parking lot.  Decorate the trunk of your car/van/truck with Halloween themed items and bring candy.  This is a fun event for the entire family.  Come out and enjoy free refreshments, pumpkin painting and trick or treating.  See FLYER for details.
 
FREE CERT Training – Get Involved. See FLYER for details.  CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) is comprised of resident volunteers.  The team is trained in basic emergency skills to respond to emergency situations in the community.  CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims and organize volunteers at a disaster site.  CERT also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.
 
YOGA IN THE PARK AUTUMN PROGRAM combines three ancient practices - Yoga, Qi Gong, and Meditation. Classes include movement to help improve the body's flexibility and strength and meditation and breath work to help quiet the mind and release stress! Classes will be geared toward beginners, with more advanced movements available for experienced yoga practitioners.  The meditation practice is perfect for all levels!  Classes will be held on Sundays - September 22, September 29, October 6 and October 13, 9:15 am - 10:15 am in Pavilion A at Borough Park, located at the Park entrance down Pennington Avenue off Hopper Avenue and led by Waldwick resident and certified Yoga and Qi Gong Instructor, Karen Livanos-Centauro.
 
Cost is $15 for ALL 4 classes - pre-register before Wednesday, September 18 or Drop-in any Sunday for only $5 per class (please bring registration form and cash payment day of class).  Participants are required to bring their own yoga mat, water and towel.  Come 15 minutes early to set up and wear comfortable clothing.  Also eat lightly prior to class.  See 2019 Autumn Yoga in the Park Registration form attached or visit our website www.waldwicknj.org for details.

HYDRANT FLUSHING SCHEDULE - Districts 4 & 6 (west of Crescent Avenue) will begin September 19 through October 2.  District 6 (east of Crescent Avenue) will begin October 3 through October 11. 
 
The Water Department will flush hydrants from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  The Borough strongly advises residents NOT do laundry or take a shower during this timeframe.  The Borough will not be held liable for any clothes that are damaged due to the flushing program.  Residents may experience some discoloration in their water, which is a result of the settling of naturally found minerals in water.  The remedy is to let the water run for a short time to clear up.  If the problem persists, please call (201) 652-5300 ext. 239.
 
COMEDY NIGHT - Hosted by the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce on November 15 @ 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm at St. Luke's Gym in Ho-Ho-Kus.  Laughter is the best medicine...come out for a "Feel Good" event while supporting a worthy cause!  Portions of the proceeds will be donated to the Center for Hope & Safety.  Tickets:  $300 Table or $35 individual tickets.  Music & Dancing - Prizes - BYOE - Bring Your Own Everything!  Featuring Comedy from Ginger Ninja Productions - Brett Druck, Mike Gaffney & Natty Bumpercar.
