Duarte Crime Blotter for the week of September 15-21, 2019        

Dear Duarte Community:

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of September 15-21, 2019

 
September 15, 2019

  • Narcotics Arrest:        
At approximately 3:40 pm, deputies responded to the area of Huntington Drive and Encanto Parkway regarding a brush fire call. The fire department was already on scene extinguishing the fire, and advised deputies they observed approximately ten transients running from the area.  Deputies located an adult male who advised them he ran from the fire but did not start it.  During their investigation, the male was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was detained.  After further investigation, the male was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell. 
 
  • Narcotics Arrest:
At approximately 7:30 pm, deputies were conducting a patrol check behind the businesses in the area of Huntington Drive and Mt. Olive Drive, when they observed an adult male sleeping by a dumpster enclosure and detained him pending an illegal camping investigation. After further investigation, deputies found methamphetamine where the male was sleeping, and arrested him.
 
September 16, 2019
  • Vandalism Arrest:
At approximately 7:00 pm, deputies responded to the “City of Hope” located at 1500 Duarte Road, regarding security detaining an adult male for vandalism.  Upon arrival, security advised deputies he observed the suspect walking through a restricted area and contacted him after he entered a bathroom.  Security advised the suspect he was in a restricted area and after using the facilities, he would have to leave.  Shortly after the suspect exited the bathroom, security observed him quickly walking away.  When security checked the restroom, they observed graffiti on the wall.  Security located the suspect outside the building and detained him.  After further investigation by responding deputies, the suspect admitted to tagging his moniker of “Toons” on the bathroom wall.  Security placed the suspect under private person’s arrest and deputies transported and booked him at Temple Station.  The suspect is a resident of Los Angeles.  
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
Between 9:00 pm on September 15thand 5:15 am on the 16th, a 1996 Toyota 4-Runner was stolen from the 1300 block of Galen Street.  The vehicle was recovered on 09-17-19 in the city of Montebello.  A suspect was arrested.        
 
September 17, 2019

September 18, 2019
  • Narcotics Arrest:    
An adult male on a bicycle was detained on a traffic stop after he was observed riding recklessly and without due regard for the safety of others, across both eastbound lanes of traffic in the 1100 block of Huntington Drive.  Due to the suspect not having any form of identification, deputies were in the process of conducting a pat down search, when the suspect told them he was in possession of a narcotics pipe.  Deputies recovered the pipe from his jacket pocket and placed the suspect under arrest for possession of narcotic paraphernalia.  
 
September 19, 2019
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon Arrest:
At approximately 5:50 pm, deputies responded to 1327 Huntington Drive (99 Cent Store), regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call.  An employee stated an adult male threatened him with a knife after he confronted the suspect for bathing in the bathroom.  Upon arrival, deputies detained and adult male in the parking lot that matched the description of the suspect in the call.  After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.  Deputies located the knife in the suspect’s personal property.  Additionally, a large quantity of methamphetamine was also located in his belongings and the suspect was additionally charged.  The suspect was currently on felony probation for possession of illegal narcotics for sales, had been out of jail for a week, and was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of his arrest.
