Cass County Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports on 09/15/2019 at 7:39pm his deputies and Michigan State Police responded to a traffic crash in the area of Pine Lake Street and Anderson Road in Cass County's Howard Township. Sheriff Behnke reports that while officers were responding to the traffic crash, witnesses at the scene advised Cass County Dispatch that the driver of the vehicle fled the scene on foot into a large cornfield. Cass County K9 "Faust" was requested to track the driver of the vehicle. During the investigation, it was also determined that the vehicle involved in the traffic crash may have recently been stolen in Berrien County. Cass County K9 Faust located the driver of the vehicle hiding in the middle of the large cornfield. The 56 year old male from Niles, Michigan was transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles for injuries sustained in the traffic crash. The subject was then taken to the Cass County Jail for an outstanding warrant and other charges are pending. This case remains under investigation.
