On September 15, 2019, Petaluma Police investigated the burglary of a small landscaping business. Video surveillance revealed the initial burglary around 6:00 PM the previous evening. An unknown male walked onto the property, forced his way into one storage shed, entered the beds and trailers of work trucks, and removed landscaping related equipment. The suspect returned around 11:00 AM, forced his way into another secured storage shed, and removed more equipment. The business experienced an approximate $3,000.00 loss. There was evidence the suspect attempted to enter the secured office as well.
Around 5:30 PM, an officer saw a male, matching the suspect’s description, across the street from the police department and attempted to contact him. The male ran but was detained without incident following a short foot pursuit. The suspect was identified as Wayne Roberts, and his background revealed he was a serial burglar. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail. The stolen property remains outstanding.
Petaluma has experienced an increase in power equipment thefts, both from secured buildings and vehicles. With the identification of Roberts and his arrest, officers will review evidence from similar, prior thefts to ascertain if there are any connections to him.
