Sheriff's Aviation conducts hoist rescue near Aztec Falls.

VICTIM(S): Troy Holenberger, 52, Laguna Beach, CA
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, September 14, 2019, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Aviation assisted the San Bernardino County Fire Department, with a hiker who fell and was having a medical emergency near Aztec Falls. The caller told the 9-1-1 dispatcher that they were near some large rocks where people jump off into the water.
The Sheriff’s patrol helicopter, 40King1, responded to the area and began a search for the victim. The crew located the victim with another subject waving at the helicopter. The victim was in a canyon with large rocks and surrounded by trees. Due to the location and terrain, 40King1 requested Air Rescue 307 to perform a hoist rescue. The crew of Air Rescue 307 lowered a medic 112-feet to the victim. The victim was placed into a rescue harness and hoisted to the helicopter. The victim had non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
