Entering Auto Suspect Identified and Arrested
September 11, 2019

Just after midnight Monday morning September 9th, multiple residents called 911 to report suspicious activity in their neighborhood off Heyward Circle.  Officers arrived and began individually canvasing the area.  A short time later, one of the officers located a suspect matching the detailed description given by the 911 callers.  The officer confronted the suspect and attempted to detain him until back-up could arrive.  A struggle ensued and despite the officers attempts, the suspect was able to escape into the darkness of the night.  During the struggle, the suspect, now identified as Terrance Lamar Foster, dropped a backpack he had been wearing.  Evidence was collected and the officers continued their investigation.  The contents of the backpack included loose change, multiple cell phones, assorted personal items and a set of keys.  Officers were able to link some of the items back to one of the 911 callers who reported their car had been entered without their permission.

By 8:00 AM the officers were confident they had positively identified the suspect and a “Be On the Look Out” (BOLO) was distributed to all Uniform Patrol.  At 3:45 PM Evening Watch officer Amelia Hines located Foster and detained him for questioning.  Foster was subsequently charged with Obstruction (F) and Entering Auto (F) on warrant 19-W-9434.  The investigation is ongoing and it is unknown if Foster entered additional automobiles.  Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact Marietta Detective Brian Bollinger at (770) 794-5345.

Had it not been for the teamwork from all involved (victims, 911 call taker, 911 dispatcher, officers and detectives) this might have been just another crime statistic.  This apprehension should serve as an excellent reminder of: See Something Say Something, as well as the value of registering your alarm and surveillance cameras with our S.M.I.L.E. program.

Chief Flynn noted: “Criminals attempting to break the law in Marietta should expect to face a unified collaboration of amazing residents, 911 call takers, dispatchers, Police Officers and Detectives.  This is another shining example of community working together.”
