Alert

Coastal Flood Advisory until 03:00AM Thursday

...HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS AND MINOR COASTAL FLOODING THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... .The combination of increased swells with large periods along with strong easterly winds will maintain a high risk for dangerous rip currents through most of tonight for the Gulf facing beaches of the Middle Texas Coast. High astronomical tides will also favor water running up to the base of dunes late this evening into the early overnight hours around the time of high tide along North Padre Island and Mustang Island.

* COASTAL FLOODING...Occasional tidal surf reaching the base of the dunes on North Padre Island and Mustang Island during high astronomical tides.

* Timing...Through 3 AM CDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Strong rip currents are expected along Gulf-facing beaches, especially near piers and jetties. Walking may be difficult during high tide and vehicles may be inundated by high water.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NUECES ISLANDS ... KLEBERG ISLANDS

Instructions:

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
