Sheriff's P.J. Tanner to hold press conference on Hurricane Dorian at 11:00 this morning, September 4, 2019.

As of noon Monday, September 2, 2019, and by order of South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, Beaufort County went under a mandatory evacuation in anticipation of potential impacts from Hurricane Dorian.The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office urges Beaufort County residents and guests to follow the Governor's evacuation order and to evacuate inland and away from impacts that this dangerous and unpredictable hurricane may bring later today (Wednesday) into tomorrow (Thursday).

As of 7:00 a.m. (Wednesday), Hurricane Dorian was located 95 miles east of Daytona Beach, was moving north-northwest at 8 mph, and had maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour. Beaufort County is under a hurricane and storm surge warnings. Dangerous winds and storm surge could arrive in Beaufort County later today (Wednesday) and continue into tomorrow (Thursday).

There is still time to evacuate inland (west) to avoid potential impacts of Hurricane Dorian. The hurricane shelter in Jasper County—located at  at the Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School, Jaguar Trail, Ridgeland, SC 29936. It is a pet-friendly shelter, but pet owners must bring their own cages, pet foods and leashes.

Later today (Wednesday), and as conditions are expected to deteriorate, we strongly urge residents and guests—who have not evacuated—not to drive onto bridges and causeways, and to stay off of the roads in general.

Sheriff P.J. Tanner will hold a press conference this morning (Wednesday)at 11:00 to discuss Hurricane Dorian, its potential impacts on Beaufort County, as well as the evacuation of Beaufort County. The press conference will be held in the first floor conference room at the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Center, 2001 Duke Street in Beaufort. Media—print, radio and television—are asked to attend. County and municipal government officials—elected and appointed—and state representatives have been invited to participate in the press conference.
