Wilmington Police are on scene investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in the 2700 block of North Washington Street.
At approximately 7:25 p.m. on Friday, August 30, police received a 911 call about shots being fired in the area of 28th and Washington Streets.
Upon arrival, police officers located a man armed with a firearm. The man was actively firing the gun when police arrived.
At the scene, two Wilmington Police officers engaged with the suspect, and both discharged their department-issued firearms, striking the suspect.
The two officers were not injured.
Police rendered first aid to the suspect prior to the arrival of paramedics. The suspect, a 35-year-old male, was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene.
This incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards and the Delaware Department of Justice.
