IMPD announces historic digital collection at Indianapolis Public Library
Indianapolis- The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is pleased to announce participation in the Indianapolis Public Library’s digital photography collection, Digital Indy. Digital Indy serves the Indianapolis Public Library with the purpose of providing access to digital images and recordings of cultural and historic interest to Indianapolis residents as well as students and researchers. Indianapolis Public Library offers these collections to allow free access to digital versions of increasingly valuable, fragile, and hard-to-use originals.
Items in this special IMPD exhibit are a repository of historic police and fire photos, log books, personnel records, dispatch recordings, newsletters and more dating to the 1870s. IMPD Deputy Chief Michael Spears states, “We are very pleased and proud to share our history through the Indianapolis Public Library’s Digital Indy Collections. The City of Indianapolis has a police department of which it can be extremely proud. This collection is the most complete and definitive collection of documents, photographs, videos and other exhibits ever compiled. We hope citizens of Indianapolis and others throughout the world will enjoy reviewing our accomplishments and heritage.”
