Flash Flood Watch until 01:00PM Friday

...Heavy rain expected tonight... .A thunderstorm complex is expected to develop north of the area tonight and then push south into western and central Missouri into southeast Kansas overnight. An upper level disturbance will also move in from the west and continue thunderstorm chances over southeast Kansas and western Missouri on Friday morning. One to two inches of widespread rainfall is expected within the watch area with localized higher amounts possible. With the recent heavy rain and creeks and streams still running high, there will be a chance of some flash flooding. Rain should end from west to east during the afternoon. The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southeast Kansas and Missouri, including the following areas, in southeast Kansas, Bourbon, Cherokee, and Crawford. In Missouri, Barton, Jasper, McDonald, Newton, and Vernon.

* From late tonight through Friday afternoon

* Heavy rainfall is expected from late tonight through Friday morning. One to two inches of widespread rain and localized higher amounts will likely lead to some flash flooding.

* Flooding will be most likely in low lying areas and near rivers, creeks and streams.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NEWTON ... BOURBON ... CRAWFORD ... MCDONALD ... BARTON ... JASPER ... VERNON ... CHEROKEE

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
