Narrative: | |||||
On August 27, 2019, patrol deputies from the Moorpark Police Station and Narcotics Detectives conducted an investigation into the sale of narcotics to minors that resulted in the arrest of several subjects. On August 27, 2019, a patrol deputy from the Moorpark Police Station was conducting proactive enforcement and made a subsequent arrest of a subject for possession of a controlled substance. The deputy conducted follow up and was able to gather information implicating Douglas Whitaker’s involvement in the sales of narcotics to residents of Moorpark. The information indicated Whitaker was responsible for furnishing illegal narcotics and marijuana to underage minors as well. This information was consistent with an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit. Following this information, Narcotics Detectives conducted surveillance on Whittaker and his residence and subsequently obtained a signed search warrant for his person and residence located in the 50 Block of Majestic Court in Moorpark. During the investigation, patrol deputies contacted Whitaker during a traffic stop in which Laird Nelson was driving Whitaker around. During the contact, Whitaker was detained pursuant to the warrant. Nelson was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and was found to be in possession of a small quantity of cocaine and “Molly” or MDMA (ecstasy). Whitaker and Nelson were both transported to the Moorpark Police Station for processing. Following the traffic stop of Whitaker and Nelson, Narcotics Detectives executed a search warrant at Whitaker’s residence. During the warrant service, detectives contacted and arrested Michael Nielsen for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for being in possession of Psilocybin mushrooms and cocaine. Detectives contacted Christopher Hulin and arrested him for possession for sale of a controlled substance, specifically “molly” and the unlawful transfer of a loaded firearm found in his bedroom. Additionally, a male juvenile was contacted at the residence and arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Through the investigation, detectives determined the male juvenile also possessed the firearm found inside the residence. In all, detectives seized 155 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms, 4.76 grams of cocaine, 26 grams of molly, over 1000 grams of marijuana packaged for sale and an unregistered firearm. Although Proposition 64 legalized marijuana in California, it is still illegal to sell, give or offer marijuana to minors. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is committed to enforce applicable marijuana laws through aggressive narcotic enforcement. All the adult males were subsequently booked at the East Valley Jail for various misdemeanor and felony narcotics/firearms charges. The male juvenile was lodged at the Juvenile Justice Center (JJC). The investigation involving the sales of narcotics to juveniles is ongoing. |
