City of Norco and CAL FIRE Identify Source of Strong Odor

CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters responded to several reports of a strong, unusual odor in the 1800 block of Fifth Street in Norco. The odor was identified as an asphalt tank that overheated and was off-gassing, creating a strong but unharmful odor. Firefighters, along with Air Quality Management District (AQMD), Riverside County Environmental Health, County Office of the Fire Marshal and City of Norco will remain on scene for the next several hours as the tank completes the off-gassing process. Approximately five businesses self-evacuated due to the strong odor. No injuries were reported. Residents with sensitivity to the odor may opt to stay indoors until it subsides.
