Man armed with a knife threatened to kill himself

On August 20, 2019 at approximately 4:09 PM SVPD Officers responded to the Meadowood Apartments at the 1700 block of Cochran St. Upon arrival officers observed the subject in the patio area of his apartment armed with a knife. The subject had cut himself and was bleeding from a laceration to his wrists. Officers on scene were able to eventually persuade the subject to put down the weapon and surrendered to officers. The subject was subsequently transported to a medical facility for the treatment of the injuries he sustained.

41,000 individuals die by suicide each year. Suicide most often occurs when stressors exceed current coping abilities of someone suffering from a mental health condition. Depression is the most common condition associated with suicide, and it is often undiagnosed or untreated. Conditions like depression, anxiety and substance problems, especially when unaddressed, increase risk for suicide. Yet it's important to note that most people who actively manage their mental health conditions lead fulfilling lives.
