Advisory

Reminder - Road closure and event info for 55th Annual Niles Antique Fair & Flea Market on Sunday, August 25, 2019

This weekend, the Niles Main Street Association will host the Annual Niles Antique Fair and Flea Market on Sunday, August 25, 2019, from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Please find below information regarding road closures, parking restrictions and general information about the event.

The following roads will be CLOSED on Sunday, August 25 from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

  • Niles Blvd. between J Street and G Street;
  • Iron Horse Lane between F Street and J Street;
  • G Street, H Street, and I Street from Niles Blvd. to second street;
  •  F Street will be no parking from Niles Blvd. to Third Street;
  • J Street will be open for traffic but all parking in that block will be designated as handicapped parking.
If you live within this area, please move your vehicle off the public roadway before Sunday morning.  Once the event begins, NO vehicular traffic, including motorcycles, will be allowed in or out of  the venue until the roads re-open.

The Niles Town Plaza parking lots will close Saturday evening, August 24 starting at 7:00 p.m.  All roadways and parking lots will reopen no later than 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25.
  • Several roads in the Niles District are posted with 72-hour "No Parking" notices.   This includes some of the narrower roads and alleyways throughout historic Niles to help allow for public safety vehicles to have emergency ingress and egress access throughout the neighborhood during the event.  Fremont Police will be on-site beginning shortly after midnight to authorize the tow of vehicles left on the posted roadway.
  • The fee to pick up a towed vehicle the following day, ranges from $400 - $600, and can be higher if left at the tow yard for multiple days. The closures are necessary to get vendors in and unpacked before the early morning crowd arrives.
  • Most roadways within Niles are public and therefore parking must be made available to the general public.  Parking in front of residences on public streets cannot be reserved or sold to visitors for a fee.
  • Sidewalks must remain clear and free for the use of pedestrians and is an ADA requirement. Please do not place large items or park vehicles across sidewalks or block sidewalk access from the street/curb.
Food service and sales:
A Health Permit and City of Fremont Business Tax may be required for the cooking, selling and/or distribution of food.  The Alameda County Department of Health can be contacted at 510-567-6708.

Regulations for sales activity:
  • On public property:  Without appropriate permits, it is unlawful for anyone to set up, operate, and maintain any sales activity on public property, including the streets, sidewalks and within community parks.  Only vendors who are official event participants will be allowed within the event venue.
  • On private property:  Residential lots are limited to the sale of personal items belonging to the residents, such as a typical garage sale would have.  It is unlawful for businesses to operate (or rent space) on a residential lot without a home occupation permit.  Commercial activity without a business license is strictly prohibited on residential property.
Parking & Alcohol Regulations:
  • Fremont Police staff will be on-site throughout the duration of the event to monitor and enforce parking complaints.  Vehicles parked in front of driveways, fire hydrants and ADA accessible ramps (sidewalks/corners) will be cited and possibly towed.
  • This event brings in several thousand people and vehicles to the small town of Niles and pedestrian safety is a high priority for police. As a friendly reminder we'd like to caution all drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians  to obey traffic and parking laws.
  • Handicapped parking can be found on the south side of J Street and on Niles Boulevard close to the corner of J Street.
  • No open alcoholic beverages are allowed at any time during the event except in lawfully designated areas (restaurants, bars, private residences, etc.).  Fremont Police will be enforcing all open container violations both within the event and throughout the Niles community.
