Heat Advisory until 08:00PM

...Hot and Humid Conditions Returning... .A summertime ridge of high pressure will build north and east into southeast Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks this weekend and early next week. High temperatures in the upper 80s and lower 90s are expected this afternoon with even warmer temperatures for Sunday and Monday. Meanwhile, a very moist airmass will settle into the region resulting in heat indices of 103 to 109 degrees this afternoon near and west of the I-49 corridor. The high heat indices will likely spread across the remainder of the Missouri Ozarks for Sunday and Monday. The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT this evening.

* TEMPERATURE...Highs in the lower 90s with heat indices of 103 to 109 degrees from mid afternoon through early evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot weather will increase the risk of heat related illness, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The very young, the elderly, and those without access to air conditioning will be especially vulnerable.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NEWTON ... BOURBON ... CRAWFORD ... MCDONALD ... BARTON ... JASPER ... VERNON ... CHEROKEE

Instructions:

A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
