On August 9, 2019 at 8:48 am, Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a 2 vehicle crash involving a 2014 Ford Fusion and a 2019 International semi-tractor/trailer on W Hwy 81 east of S Cox. Rd in the Town of Avon. Orfordville Fire/EMS, Town of Beloit EMS, MD-1, and a Wisconsin State Patrol Inspector also responded to the crash.
Preliminary investigation shows the Ford Fusion was driven by a 68 year old Bloomingdale, Illinois woman and was traveling westbound on W HY 81.The Ford Fusion crossed the centerline and into the eastbound lane of traffic striking the rear axles of an eastbound International Tractor that was operated by a 41 year old Antioch, Illinois man. The Ford Fusion sustained heavy front end damage and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. The trailer that the International tractor was pulling sustained moderate damage and the operator was uninjured.
The driver of the Ford was transported via ambulance to Mercy Hospital with where she was pronounced deceased.
W Hwy 81 was closed to traffic for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes while emergency personnel secured the scene and investigated the crash.
