Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Raymond J. Hayducka of the South Brunswick Police Department announce that a man from Jamesburg has been arrested and charged regarding the death of a man who was struck and killed while driving his motorcycle yesterday evening.
Peter Prete, 57, of Jamesburg, was arrested yesterday and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash in the second degree in addition to various motor vehicle summonses.
The deceased victim was identified as Cory Holsten, 25, of the Dayton section of South Brunswick. He was pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The investigation began after police were dispatched to the scene of the crash which occurred in the area of Cranbury Road and Davidson Mill Road in South Brunswick at approximately 8:50 pm on August 8, 2019.
The preliminary investigation has determined that Prete was driving a 2004 Jeep Wrangler when he crashed into the motorcycle driven by the victim. Prete fled the scene but was later apprehended at his residence.
The investigation is continuing. Police are actively seeking information from any witnesses who may have knowledge regarding this fatal crash.
Chief Hayducka expressed his condolence to the Holsten family and praised the cooperation of all the law enforcement involved. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the Holsten family and friends. I want to thank all the law enforcement agencies involved - East Brunswick Police Department, Jamesburg Police Department, Monroe Police Department, and the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office for all the efforts that led to this suspect's caprure," said Hayducka.
