Detective Walt Thrower of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged David Lee Dehart, 55, address listed as Branson Creek Drive in Old Fort, with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
                Deputy Bob Green of the Sheriff’s Office also charged Dehart with assault on a government official or employee, communicating threats and resisting a public officer.
                On the afternoon of Thursday, July 11, Thrower was conducting a random sex offender residence check at the Branson Creek Drive home of Dehart, who is a registered sex offender.
                The suspect became irate, pushed Thrower off the porch and, once the detective was back in his patrol car, came at him with a pair of scissors.
                Multiple deputies then responded to the scene and helped take Dehart into custody.
